California Dems approve 'sanctuary state' bill

Californian Democratic lawmakers approved a regulation on Saturday, known as a "sanctuary state" bill, local media reported. The legislation's main purpose is to limit the cooperation and interaction between local and state police with federal immigration agents. The bill intends to strengthen the protection of immigrants in California.

The decision comes as part of the continuous efforts by the Democratic Party in the state to oppose US President Donald Trump's and his administration's intentions to increase deportation of illegal immigrants from the US.

So far, the state of California has opposed a number of Republican-led policies. The increase in the gasoline tax in order to lower pollution levels and the greater protection of undocumented immigrants are some of the efforts adopted by Californian lawmakers that counter GOP-influenced federal policies.
