Hammond says 'hard Brexiteers' are after him

United Kingdom Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond told the Andrew Marr show on Sunday that he believes some of his colleagues in Cabinet that are not happy with a soft Brexit may be planting damaging stories about him in the local papers. However, he noted, he has no proof of this.

Hammond said: "If you want my opinion, some of the noise is generated by people who are not happy with the agenda that I have – over the last few weeks – tried to advance, of ensuring that we achieve a Brexit which is focused on protecting our economy, protecting our jobs and making sure we can have continued rising living standards in the future."

Earlier media reports said that Hammond all-but admitted that he informed his colleagues in government that workers in the public sector are "overpaid." However, he denied saying that "even a woman" can drive a train.
