McMaster: Military option for N. Korea not preferred

The United States does have a military option for solving the issue of North Korea and its development of nuclear weapons, however, it is not the preferred solution, National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster said at a briefing on Friday.

Following the latest launching of a ballistic missile, McMaster explained that the administration of President Donald Trump wishes to push for more diplomacy and economic action, and added that it will urge other countries to do everything possible "to address this global problem short of war."

US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley promised the focus at the UN next week would be Pyongyang, stating it is "time to be serious and make sure there is action"in order to prevent the deepening of the crisis on the Korean Peninsula. Ambassador Haley added that the most recent UN Security Council sanctions imposed on North Korea are significant and have managed to cut off "90% of trade going into" the country. President Trump was however, vocal that the sanctions are "just the beginning of what we can do" to tackle the issue.
