Asia trades mixed after strong China data

Markets in Asia traded mixed on Monday following the release of better-than-expected Chinese second-quarter GDP. Chinese blue-chips recouped steep early losses after data showed the world's second-largest economy grew at a slightly faster than expected pace of 6.9% year on year.

Japanese markets were closed for Marine Day. The dollar strengthened 0.08% against the yen, to go for 112.62 at 6:55 am CET.

China's Shanghai Composite dropped 0.11% at 6:55 am CET, while the Shenzhen Composite decreased 2.24% at the time. Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0.58% at 6:56 am CET.

South Korean Kospi Composite gained 0.31% at 6:36 am CET.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 traded 0.12% in the red at 6:57 am CET.
