China praises proposal for talks on Korean Peninsula

Chines Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lu Kang stated on Monday that Beijing welcomes South Korea's proposal for dialogue with its neighbor North Korea in efforts to reduce tensions in the region, TASS reported.

"The Chinese government has always adhered to a stance that improving relations between the two countries [North and South Korea] is in line with their fundamental principles and also contributes to calm and improving situation on the Korean Peninsula," Kang noted, adding that the bid to establish talks will greatly aid the development on the Korean Peninsula.

Earlier today, Seoul called Pyongyang to hold bilateral talks, mainly focusing on the pressing issues, including North Korea's continuous missile tests. South Korea proposed that both countries establish the dialogue at a defense ministry levels.
