Russia: N. Korea interested in talks with US

Despite a tumultuous relationship, North Korea is very interested in establishing a direct dialogue with the United States, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told Sputnik on Wednesday. He added, however, that he doesn't believe the Trump administration has enough political will to pull this through.

"Pyongyang is extremely interested in direct dialogue with Washington. I do not have confidence that the US administration has the political will and the determination to enter into such dialogue," Ryabkov said, adding that Pyongyang is improving its ballistic missile at a rapid pace.

The US State Department reported yesterday that US Special Representative for North Korea Policy Ambassador Joseph Yun is currently in Russia's capital, where he is discussing the North Korean concern with Russian officials, a day after the UN Security Council voted to impose a new round of sanctions on the isolated nation, the toughest measures yet.
