UK unemployment rate falls to 4.3% in July

The rate of unemployment in the United Kingdom stood at 4.3% in the three months to July, according to data released by the Office for National Statistics on Wednesday. A year earlier, the figure was at 4.9% with the July reporting marking the lowest since 1975.

Data showed that in July the decrease in unemployment year on year as a result of a rise in the employment rate, which stood at 75.3%, the highest since comparable records began in 1971. The number of vacancies fell by 7,000 to 774,000 from June to August 2017 compared to a period from March to May.

Meanwhile, wage expansion recorded an increase in the three months to July this year. Annual growth in total average weekly earnings, adjusted for inflation, fell by 0.4%, both with and without bonuses, year on year.
