Trump denies asking Comey to shut down Flynn probe

United States President Donald Trump has denied allegations that he asked former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director James Comey to shut down the investigation into former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.

Speaking during a joint press conference with his Colombian counterpart Juan Manuel Santos (pictured right) on Thursday, Trump reiterated his earlier claims that Comey was, in fact, rather unpopular at the Bureau and that he thought the decision to fire him would get bipartisan support. He said that the FBI is a "special" institution and that the US needs a great director of the Bureau. "We will have an outstanding FBI director," Trump stated, adding that he will announce the new person for the role "soon."

The president also said there was no collusion between his campaign team and Russia and that "even his enemies" can confirm this.
