Trump, King Salman sign major weapons sale deal

United States President Donald Trump and Saudi Arabia’s King Salman signed a series of agreements on Saturday, including a $110 billion arms deal and a defense cooperation agreement. President Trump kicked off his first foreign trip earlier when he arrived in Riyadh and recieved Saudi Arabia’s highest civilian honor, the Collar of Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The military sales agreement has the purpose of improving Saudi Arabia’s military capabilities as pressure increases in the region and to strengthen the security relationship with the US.

"This package of defense equipment and services support the long-term security of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region in the face of Iranian threats, while also bolstering the Kingdom's ability to contribute to counter terrorism operations across the region, reducing the burden on the US military to conduct those operations," the White House said in a statement about the agreements the two leaders signed at the Saudi Royal Court.
