Trump said Comey firing took 'pressure' off him: sources

United States President Donald Trump told Russian officials with whom he met in the White House last week that his firing of then-FBI Director James Comey took “pressure” off him, the New York Times reported on Friday. The document cited by the Times was based on notes that were taken in the Oval Office when Russian Foreign minister Sergey Lavrov and Russia’s ambassador to the US where in attendance.

“I just fired the head of the F.B.I. He was crazy, a real nut job,” President Trump allegedly said during the meeting, adding, “I faced great pressure because of Russia. That’s taken off,” according to the document that was reportedly read to the New York Times by an American official. The president then stated that he is not under investigation, the report claims.

The meeting between Trump and the Russian diplomats was the same meeting when he allegedly revealed highly classified intelligence. Following recent allegations, the US president claimed that he is the victim of “the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history.” He is currently on way to Saudi Arabia, where he will commence his first foreign trip.
