UAE urges international monitoring in Qatar crisis

The government in Abu Dhabi denies hacking Qatari media in the runup to the blockade imposed by Persian Gulf monarchies and Egypt, said Anwar Gargash, the minister of state for foreign affairs of the United Arab Emirates.

"We need a regional solution and international monitoring," the official stated in written remarks for a speech in London on Monday. "We need to be certain that Qatar, a state with $300 billion in reserves, is no longer an official or unofficial sponsor of jihadist and terrorist causes." Gargash indicated the bloc led by Saudi Arabia believes the pressure is working, and insisted the resolution process may take a long time.

Qatar cannot be friend both to its partners within the Gulf Cooperation Council and to Al-Qaeda, the UAE's top diplomat said and claimed the officials from the United States and Europe see the targeted country's duplicity, hinting at Iran's "expansion." Turning to the business environment, the foreign minister vowed not to ask investors to choose sides.
