Bezos: US government should embrace AI

United States President Donald Trump met with the chief executives of major US tech companies at the White House to discuss modernizing the government’s computer systems, cutting IT costs and utilizing technology to help better the lives of people around the country. “My administration is embracing a new spirit of innovation that will make lives better for Americans,” the president commenced the meeting, stressing that the US should be a leader in global technology, just as the government “has to catch up to the tech revolution.”

Following the first American Technology Council meeting, Alphabet Inc. CEO Eric Schmidt said that he was convinced that “a huge explosion of new opportunities” would arise during President Trump’s administration as a result entrepreneurs, skilled workers and immigrants coming to work together. Trump promised the tech giants his administration would be working on making enlightened immigration easier “so you can get the people you want in your companies.”

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said he hopes the Trump administration would continue to be the “innovation administration,” and embrace commercial technology wherever possible, as well as machine learning and artificial intelligence. Satya Nadella, chief executive at Microsoft, said before the council that increasing American competitiveness and skilling workers across the country are of the utmost priority.
