Cuban FM: No returning of fugitives to US

Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla (pictured) said on Monday that his country will not return American fugitives to the United States, despite Donald Trump's calls for action.

Speaking at a press conference in Vienna, Parrilla said that Cuba will never negotiate its independence and sovereignty, rejecting demands by the US to extradite those American fugitives it regards as fighters for civil rights. The reversal of the US' policy on the island country announced by Trump on Friday will only strengthen Cuba's patriotism, its dignity and determination to defend its national independence, the minister stressed.

Given America's incarceration rates, police abuses and violations of rights of minorities, it has "no moral authority" to lecture Cuba on human rights and democracy, Parrilla added.
