French minister: Paris attacker dead, car contained explosives

France's Interior Minister Gerard Collomb stated on Monday that the attacker who rammed a car carrying explosives into a police vehicle on Champs Elysees earlier today has been neutralized. He went on to say that today's attempted attack on police shows threat is still very high.

Collomb also announced he will present a bill on Wednesday at a Cabinet meeting to extend the state of emergency from July 15 until November 1.

The Associated Press cited two police officials who said the perpetrator was a 31-year old man from a Paris suburb and that the authorities were aware of his potential connections to terrorism.

The police still advises citizens to avoid this area.
