Iran hits ISIS base in Syria with missiles

As on Sunday Major General Ataollah Salehi, Iranian Army Commander, said his troops will annihilate the Islamic State, or ISIS, like a "wild dog... but also give a response to their masters too," the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said it struck its base, concentration points and logistical centers in Deir ez-Zor. The mid-range ground-to-ground missiles hit the location in Syria's east after they were launched from Aerospace Force bases in border areas of Kermanshah and Kurdistan provinces in Iran, the statement said.

The move comes after on June 7 the militant Islamist group organized two attacks in Tehran, including one on the parliament, murdering 18 people. IGRC said it has information "a large number" of ISIS fighters were killed. The organization stated the strikes were "a warning to deter any further action."

In other news, the Syrian government said one of its fighter jets has been shot down by the military anti-ISIS coalition led by the United States in Raqqa countryside. The city is Islamic State's de facto capital and the main stronghold.
