Macron's party wins strong majority in parliament

French President Emmanuel Macron's party won strong parliamentary majority with most of the votes already counted, France's Interior Ministry said.

La Republique En Marche and its Modern allies won at least 301 seats, baed on 92% of votes counted. The ministry data put Macron's party at 263 seats and its partner at 38 seats. Far-right leader Marine Le Pen was elected to parliament together with seven other National Front candidates.

With French unions losing many of their traditional allies in parliament after the election result, Macron's next test will be handling the country's strong unions with care in order to push through his reform agenda.
