CB: Key US economic indicators rise in January

The Leading Economic Index (LEI) for the United States rose 0.6% in January to 125.5, after growing 0.5% the month before, according to a report released by the Conference Board on Friday.

The Conference Board Coincident Economic Index (CEI) for the US edged up 0.1% to 114.4 over the same period, while the Lagging Economic Index (LAG) added 0.3% to 123.7.

The improvement in the value of indexes over the last month points to "a positive economic outlook in the first half of this year," Director of Business Cycles and Growth Research at the Conference Board Ataman Ozyildirim said in a statement. "If this trend continues, the U.S. economy may even accelerate in the near term," he added.
