Europe opens higher as UK, EU hold Brexit talks

Markets in Europe opened in the green on Monday as the United Kingdom is set to hold its first talks on leaving the European Union later in Brussels. The negotiations will set the terms under which the UK will withdraw from the EU. In France, President Emmanuel Macron's centrist party La Republique En Marche won the second round of the country's parliamentary elections, garnering around 300 seats in the National Assembly. 

The DAX opened 0.48% higher. Deutsche Bank and Daimler led the gains, adding 1.47% and 1.30%, respectively, at 9:16 am CET. The CAC 40 added 0.76% at the open. The index' strong performance was bolstered by gains in IT services corporation Atos' shares, while the FTSE 100 gained 0.67% at the start of the session.

The euro was flat against the US dollar at 9:04 am CET, buying 1.1200 at the time. Meanwhile, the sterling was flat as well against the greenback, changing hands for 1/27824 at 9:05 am CET.
