House Dem leader slams Trump Puerto Rico tweets

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (pictured) condemned on Thursday the United States President Donald Trump after he indicated that he might pull emergency responders from Puerto Rico which is still struggling with the consequences of the devastating Hurricane Maria. "It’s heartbreaking and it lacks knowledge about what the role is for FEMA and the others in time of natural disaster [and] what our responsibility is as the federal government to the people of our country," Pelosi stated to the reporters in the Capitol. "And I remind [him] that the people of the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico are American citizens."

Earlier today, Trump took to Twitter to accuse Puerto Rico officials of being responsible for the island's fiscal troubles and crumbling infrastructure, then signaling he could withdraw the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) from the US territory. “We cannot keep FEMA, the Military & the First Responders, who have been amazing (under the most difficult circumstances) in P.R. forever!” Trump tweeted.
