Lavrov tells US that Iran abides by nuclear deal

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told his American counterpart Rex Tillerson on Thursday that Iran has abided by all its commitments stipulated in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear deal which Tehran signed in 2015 with Russia, the US, the United Kingdom, France Germany and China.

"Lavrov drew attention to the fact that Tehran abides by all its commitments on the JCPOA and stressed that the other co-authors must adhere to the document," Russia's Foreign Ministry said in a statement following a phone conversation between the two top diplomats.

According to media reports, US President Donald Trump is expected to decertify the agreement by the end of the week. Trump, who had called the JCPOA "probably one of the worst deals in history," said he decided what to do regarding the nuclear agreement with Iran, but is yet to officially announce his decision. Meanwhile, all the other signatories urged the US not to back out of the deal.
