Wall Street closes lower amid earnings, data

Equities on Wall Street closed in the red on Thursday as investors digest earnings from major financial companies, a flurry of central banker speeches and key economic data, including initial jobless claims. JPMorgan Chase reported EPS at $1.76 in the third quarter, while Citigroup said its earnings per share were at $1.42 this past quarter. 

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 0.14% lower, as financials fell on earnings reports. JPMorgan declined 0.88% following its quarterly report, while Goldman Sachs fell 1.07%. The S&P 500 ended 0.17% down as Ulta Beauty plummeted 8.53%. The Nasdaq 100 shed 0.19%; Argentine company MercadoLibre dropped over 10% on news Amazon plans to enter the e-commerce market in Brazil. Meanwhile, the euro lost 0.23% against the dollar at 10:20 pm CET, buying $1.18319.
