Russia accuses Ukraine of undermining Trump campaign

Russia’s Foreign Ministry official accused the Ukrainian government on Thursday of sabotaging U.S. president-elect Donald Trump’s presidential campaign by slander on social media and badmouthing one of his close associates.

“Ukraine seriously complicated the work of Trump’s election campaign headquarters by planting information according to which Paul Manafort, Trump’s campaign chairman, allegedly accepted money from Ukrainian oligarchs,” a spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry said at a press conference.

The corruption scandal Manafort was involved in over the summer was centered around a pro-Russian Ukranian political party funded by oligarchs, from which he allegedly received $12.7 million in cash.
